Homemade Sloppy Joes

These are not your cafeteria memory sloppy joes - nor are they anything like the tangy canned variety. These are oh so yummy. My husband told me he didn't like sloppy joes - until he had these :) The best part for me is that they can be made with stuff that I bet you already have on hand in your pantry! The red bell pepper is a must so if you don't have, definitely make that purchase before making these delicious sloppy joes!

Ingredients
1 lb ground beef or turkey (the leaner the better)
1/3 cup brown sugar
1 Tbs steak seasoning
1/2 cup onion, diced
1 red bell pepper, diced
16 oz tomato sauce
3 tablespoons tomato paste
1 Tbs red wine vinegar (white would be ok if it is all you have)
1 Tbs worcestershire sauce
Crusty Rolls or Hamburger Buns

Brown meat with steak seasoning and onion. I recommend this one:
Once browned, add brown sugar and bell pepper.

Add vinegar and worcestershire and let cook about 5 minutes.

Add tomato sauce courtesy of your little helper

and paste, stirring to combine.

Simmer over low heat 10 -15 minutes. Serve over crusty rolls or buns.

My boys like to add cheese to their bread before pouring on the sloppy joe mix but I like it just like it is! Hope you enjoy!

Bethany, your recipe sounds interesting and a little bit different than my sloppy joes recipe. What I really like about this sloppy joes is that they are so flexible, that it is delicious and nutritious and that everyone loves it.
