Often times you can find some really awesome deals online. Many stores will run online only specials, offer coupon codes and you get the great benefit of first going through cash back sites like Ebates and ShopAtHome.
There is usually only one problem - the shipping costs can more than outweigh your savings. While many sites offer free shipping, it is usually with a minimum purchase of at least $50 and most of us do not want to spend a full $50. So, what can you do?
1) Search for free shipping codes. Many times, other shoppers will share free shipping codes they find with everyone. You can usually just search "free shipping codes" plus the store you are looking for in your favorite search engine (like Swagbucks) and you will get several different sites with code possibilities.
2) Buy Ahead. Maybe the site has other things you will need or could use at a future time. If your budget allows it, buy ahead, put those things aside and enjoy being able to grab them later when you need them. (think future sizes of clothing for your children, decor for a future holiday, etc)
3) Go in on the shipping. This one I think is going to be your best bet. Most of us are not in this savings game alone - we usually have one or two friends more than excited about the same deal we are. If each of you grabs the one or two things you need, you can all benefit from the free shipping and savings!
I think online shopping can really improve your overall savings if you are just saavy about it. What other ideas do you have for saving on shipping costs?
