12 Days of Treats - Day Four!

Today's treat is actually one of my husbands favorite things his mom would make. Let me give you a little insight to the hubs...he loves all things dairy. Seriously ya'll, it's unreal. That being said, cream cheese rocks his world. Me? Not so much. I usually don't like things where the main ingredient or flavor is cream cheese but, I do like this. I have upped some of the measurements from the original recipe so that it's not as "cream cheesy" but that's just for my personal taste...hubs didn't complain :) The original recipe did not call for any cinnamon sugar and only called for 1 tsp vanilla and 1 tsp of lemon juice.

My recommendations:

1) Use reduced fat cream cheese and reduced fat crescent rolls. You won't notice the difference and your thighs will thank you.
2) Change up the flavoring or extracts or add a layer of fruit/fruit spread. Get creative!

Linda's Cream Cheese Danish

Danish:
2 8 ct cans of crescent rolls
2 8 oz pkgs cream cheese, softened
3/4 cup powdered sugar
1 1/4 teaspoons vanilla
1 1/2 teaspoons lemon juice
cinnamon sugar blend
1 egg white, beaten

Glaze:
1 cup powdered sugar
1 Tablespoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon milk

Preheat oven to 350.
Mix powdered sugar, vanilla, lemon juice, cream cheese and 1/8 teaspoon or about 10 turns of a cinnamon sugar grinder.
I used this:
Set aside. Roll out one can of crescent rolls into a sprayed 9x13 pan.Top with cream cheese mixture. Once mixture is spread out, sprinkle lightly with more cinnamon sugar. Top with remaining can of rolled out crescent rolls. Brush top with whipped egg white and bake for 30 min.

Mix glaze with remaining ingredients and top danish while still hot from the oven. Let set for 10-15 minutes and enjoy.

I've made these quite a bit in the past, it's been a few years, and everyone loved them! I've experimented by adding chocolate chips and even blueberry pie filling (not together) - both were hits but plain is everyones favorite.
